Golf
anyone?
I’m going fishing, thanks.
Chris Marshall, editor
of Canadian Fly Fisher, compares golf to fly fishing, “In the current economic downturn, fly fishing has two
outstanding advantages. First, as a non-competitive activity, it’s stress relieving rather than stress generating. Second,
although it’s possible to spend big bucks on fancy gear and exotic trips, you can have superb fly fishing on a very
limited budget.”
“Golf is the antithesis of fly fishing – competitive and stress generating.
At a time when economic conditions are subjecting many of us to increased stress as we worry about our jobs, our businesses,
and our retirement savings, who needs a sport which subjects us to more of the same!”
Now,
for enlightened fly fishers only, here’s a great trout fly called the Edson Dark Tiger Bucktail. Mr. William R. Edson,
of Portland, Maine, originated it in 1929. Joseph D. Bates, in his book Streamer Fly Tying and Fishing, published by Stackpole
in 1950, says of this fly, “This is one of the most famous of all bucktail flies for trout, landlocked salmon, bass,
many other species of game fish.” It is still a favourite of many old-timers for trout fishing in Guysborough County
lakes.
