Damian Lee Welsh is a 33-year-old Fly Tyer from Nova Scotia, Canada.
For the past Decade Damian has lived on Beautiful Cape Breton Island with his
Wife Melissa and as of 2006 with their twin Daughters Khelsea-Lee and Kheiran Elizabeth, whom have already been bitten by
the fishing and fly tying bug.
Most recently they have returned
to Damian’s hometown to be closer to family and of course get a chance to fish his home waters once again after a lengthy
absence. 2007 saw the Welsh family living in very close proximity to the Margaree River in Cape Breton,
after a full season on the Margaree, Damian got to know the river fairly intimately and he longs to return to his beloved
river.
Damian is a member of The Outdoor
Writers of Canada and is currently enrolled in The North American School of Outdoor Writing, under the tutelage of Roger Brunt. His work has been
profiled in "A Little Thing I Tied Myself" Stories of Atlantic Canadian Fly Tyer's ~Don MacLean released in
2006 by Nimbus Publishing. His work has appeared in print most recently in Fly Fusion Magazine's "Fly Tier's
Canvas". There is also a step-by-step tutorial for the Rusty Rat Variation that he tied for Fly Fusion on www.flyangler.ca. Damian
was the 2005 Salmon Rookie of the Year on Flytyingforum.com's Fly Tyer of the Year Contest and in 2006 his Silver Doctor
Spey Fly won a Bronze Medal in the Spey & Dee Category.
Damian
has been a guest fly tyer and recently a guest speaker at the annual Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum in Dieppe, New Brunswick for
the past few years and enjoys sharing his passion for all things fly tying and fly fishing with others.
